New NodOn DIN Rail boxes: Standard or Power, which to choose and how to install them?

You've been waiting for them to make your consumer unit installations safer and more professional: the new generation of our DIN Rail Boxes (DRB) has arrived!

After more than 5 years of loyal service, our single reference DRB-2-2-00 (V2) is being retired. It is replaced not by one, but by two new V3 models : a "Standard" version and a "Power" version.

Why this change? What are the differences? And above all, how should you adapt your wiring? We explain everything in this article.

Why a new DRB V3 range?

The world of connected buildings is evolving, and so are our modules. Our latest modules offer enhanced performance and can handle higher power levels.

Our previous V2 box, while very versatile, no longer fully met the thermal requirements of today's high loads. To guarantee maximum safety and durability, particularly to withstand resistive loads of up to 14 A (at 30 °C), we decided to specialise our boxes.

That is why the DRB V3 range is now split into two distinct versions.

1. The "Standard" DIN Rail Box (DRB-1-3-00)

This box is designed for everyday installations where NodOn modules do not need to handle very high electrical loads. It is the ideal box for lighting, roller shutters or dry contacts.

• Maximum current: 6 A
• Use: Lighting, shutters and blinds, dry contact, etc.
• Compatible modules:
  • SIN-X-1-20 (1-channel multifunction modules)
  • SIN-X-2-20 (2-channel ON/OFF lighting modules)
  • SIN-X-RS-20 (Roller shutter modules)
  • SIN-X-SM-21 (Energy metering modules)
• Operating temperature: -20°C to 40°C
• Dimensions: 82×66×25 mm

2. The "Power" DIN Rail Box (DRB-1-3-10)

This box was specifically developed for installations where the modules need to control heavy loads or measure energy consumption. Its internal architecture and PCB are optimised for better temperature resistance.

Main features:

• Maximum current: 14 A at 30 °C / 12 A at 40 °C
• Use: Heating, water heaters, metering functions.
• Compatible modules:
  • SIN-X-1-20 (1-channel multifunction modules) – SIN-4-1-20: live output only
  • SIN-X-1-21 (Multifunction modules with energy metering)
  • SIN-X-FP-21 (Pilot wire modules)
• Operating temperature: -20°C to 40°C
• Dimensions: 82×66×25 mm
• Weight: 48 g

Warning: important wiring change (Pin Out)!

This is the most important point of this update. The wiring of these new V3 boxes is different from the old V2 version, and it also differs between the "Standard" and "Power" versions.

Thermal optimisation required us to revise the mapping between the terminals of the inserted module and the output terminals of the DIN Rail Box. Simply wiring "straight across" is no longer enough!

The special case of the SIN-X-1-20 module

The SIN-X-1-20 module is the only one compatible with both versions of the box, but its use changes radically depending on the box chosen:

• In the "Standard" box (DRB-1-3-00): It is used for its dry contact (potential-free) functions on terminals 4 and 5 of the DRB.
  
  
• In the "Power" box (DRB-1-3-10): The SIN-4-1-20 can only be used as a live output to supply power products. For dry contact (potential-free) use, the SIN-4-1-20 must be used with the DRB-1-3-00.

Don't panic: new stickers are included!

We are aware that this change in terminal mapping may be confusing during installation if you have used the old DRB before.

To make things easier and avoid mistakes, we now supply a new set of 5 sticker sheets in every DRB V3 box.

These stickers go directly on your SIN modules before you insert them into the box. They visually show the new terminal mapping (C, N, L, switch inputs) for the box you are using.

The arrival of the DRB V3 range is an important step for the reliability of your connected installations in the consumer unit. By choosing the right box (Standard for everyday uses, Power for heating and metering), you ensure optimal and safe performance.

Just remember to check the new wiring diagrams carefully and to use the stickers provided!
