Energy sobriety, every action counts

Sobriété énergétique, chaque geste compte

Energy sobriety is an approach aimed at reducing energy consumption, without reducing the comfort of life. It is necessary to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and combat climate change.

There are many actions that can be taken to achieve this goal. They can be implemented at all levels, from individuals to businesses and communities.

Turn off the lights when you leave a room, turn down the heating, use public transport or bicycles, reduce your water consumption, insulate your attic and windows, replace your household appliances with more efficient models, or invest in renewable energy production solutions such as solar panels or wind turbines, etc.

Energy sobriety is a collective approach that requires everyone's commitment . By adopting simple actions on a daily basis, we can all contribute to reducing our energy consumption and protecting our planet.

The Ministry of Energy Transition has published a 50-page brochure that you can browse in its entirety by clicking on the thumbnail below:

10 actions for greater energy efficiency:

1. Lower the maximum temperature of your heating to 19°C maximum and lower the temperature at night to 16°C.

2. Install a programmable thermostat to manage your heating.

3. Reduce heating from 19°C to 18°C on days of high stress on the electrical system when the EcoWatt* signal is red.

4. Set your water heater to 55°C and stay in the shower for less time.

5. Encourage carpooling, take the train instead of the plane, and favor the train and public transport instead of the car, when possible.

6. Turn off all your devices that are running or on standby when not in use.

7. Shift the use of your electrical appliances to outside peak periods (8am-1pm/6pm-8pm).

8. Turn off the lights when you leave a room and switch to LED lighting

9. Produce photovoltaic energy for self-consumption and reinject the surplus.

10. Keep your Smartphone or PC longer or opt for a refurbished one.

* You can find out about the EcoWatt electricity weather forecast at any time, in partnership with RTE. A real electricity weather forecast, Ecowatt assesses the level of consumption of the French in real time. At any time, clear signals guide you on the right actions to take to ensure a good supply of electricity for everyone. It is the reference indicator of the voltage level on the electrical system. Like the Bison futé system for road traffic, the system Ecowatt allows you to know the voltage level of the electrical system thanks to three colors.

  • Green 📗: Normal situation
  • Orange 📙: Strained electrical system, apparently without cuts, but without sufficient margin to cover an unfavorable risk. Actions to reduce consumption are welcome
  • Red 📕: The electricity system is in a very tense situation and the forecast consumption cannot be covered. Without a voluntary reduction in consumption, targeted cuts are inevitable.

The orange or red Écowatt signal will be announced three days in advance, by SMS in the event of registration or by the RTE application, in order to allow each consumer to organize themselves as best as possible.

Reducing our impact on global warming is everyone's business!
